My family met Cantor Kathy Robbins when we joined Temple Solel. We had just moved back to San Diego after my husband’s Navy tour in Hawaii. At Pearl Harbor we attended services at the Aloha Jewish Chapel which served military families and local residents. Joining Temple Solel was a very new experience for all of us. There were many families, a large congregation and MUSIC! Cantor Kathy added a dimension to the services that we hadn’t expected or experienced before. We were overwhelmed by the difference her music made. Her pure voice and range truly encouraged contemplation and spiritual peace.

Cantor Kathy was instrumental in our daughters’ Bat Mitzvah training. She made tapes for all the students to learn the prayers and their parts in the service. She worked closely with them and helped them develop the confidence they needed. She became a true role model for them and all the students she worked with.

As our daughters grew up, Cantor Kathy continued to be part of their lives. She officiated at the wedding of our daughter and at the namings of her son and three daughters. When our grandson passed away Cantor Kathy consoled us by leading the funeral and burial service. A few years ago she graciously agreed to drive up to LA to officiate at the funeral of my son-in-law’s grandmother, a Holocaust survivor. Last year my husband became ill and sadly passed away. Again, we called on Cantor Kathy and she officiated at his burial service and then at the unveiling of his stone. My daughters and I could not have handled these difficult times without the caring support and the music that Cantor Kathy Robbinsprovided.

I have been at celebrations and clubs where Kathy has entertained and loved hearing her sing contemporary music and standards. She can sing every type of song! Her singing always puts me in a good mood! I look forward to many more evenings of her music and many more get-togethers with her.

My name is Mark Gilmor. My wife Elena and I have three children. I grew up in a conservative Jewish household. Elena comes from an Italian Christian background. We were determined to introduce our kids to a reform, Jewish culture. Our neighbors recommended we contact Cantor Kathy Robbins to explore how Judaism could help benefit our family and kids. Cantor Kathy provided them with remote tutoring and training on a weekly basis to read and sing Hebrew sentences. She is a very effective and engaging teacher. She is truly a gifted and talented person who connected quickly and easily with each of our three kids. The celebration of two Bat Mitzvahs and one Bar Mitzvah  was spectacular!! Our family and friends gathered at our house to witness the beautiful ceremony. Cantor Kathy put together a beautiful and special program filled with loving prayers and beautiful songs! The two ceremonies were perhaps the most memorable and spiritual events for our kids and our family! We are all so grateful to Cantor Kathy for her dedication and commitment to our children and us !! I personally asked her to help me prepare for two separate readings of the Torah for my niece and nephews Bat and Bar Mitzvah! I was a sensational guest speaker because of the incredible preparation I received from Cantor Kathy. I have had the pleasure of knowing Cantor Kathy Robbins for over 10 years. My first experience was with her when she began teaching and preparing my son's for their B'nai Mitzvah. She even officiated their ceremony which made the day extra meaningful. Cantor Kathy is currently tutoring my daughter for her upcoming Bat Mitzvah. I have been so impressed with her teaching style and techniques. She individually tailored her lessons to each of my children and their personal needs and understanding. We live out of state so all the of my children have used her online platform. It has been effective and extremely successful using both FaceTime, voice recordings, and worksheets. Living in a small community without the support and resources of a Jewish Community we were worried our children would not have the opportunity to study Hebrew. We are so thankfully for Cantor Kathy and her amazing program. We very highly recommend her!

I met Cantor Kathy years ago when my family joined Temple Solel. My boys were young and my husband and I raised them in the Jewish faith as had been his upbringing. I learned about Judaism through Kathy’s teaching of songs and prayers at services and through my boys’ Religious and Hebrew School training. Kathy guided both sons through their Bar Mitzvah (s) and officiated at their marriages. Her premarital counseling helped both future wives (interfaith) understand and fully participate in the marriage ceremony.

At all the services and life events, friends and family would always, always comment effusively about the music and Kathy’s vocals. Kathy brings a joyous spiritual emotion to the prayers. You are just “moved”. During my husband’s final days, Kathy visited our home and played guitar and sang his favorite songs. He was very happy and comforted by these visits. Kathy officiated at his funeral. My family and friends found comfort in her words, prayers and singing.

In addition to her pastoral and liturgical work, Kathy has arranged and produced “special” musical events and ‘theme’ concerts including an evening of Yiddish songs and The Music of Leonard Cohen and performs popular, secular music around town. She is currently in both a jazz group and an acoustic one. I have had the pleasure of attending her secular performances and have enjoyed every one of them. More importantly I enjoy our friendship and her support throughout the years.

When you see and hear Cantor Kathy in action, whether at Shabbat Services, holiday celebrations or life-cycle events, she commands your attention and you are compelled to listen. With a voice so connected to her soul, she radiates sensitivity, creativity and connection to all people. She performs in all genres of music and magnetically draws folks together.

Kathy Robbins understands the designs of love and courage in every individual. She has stood by my side at my Bar Mitzvah and believed in my ability to read the Torah well. She helped my family through illness, weddings and death. Her soul in warming in times of revelation and resilience.
